Heavy D and the Boyz ‘Now That We Found Love’
HOT JAM.
1991.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (Extended Intro)
I remember seeing this version of the intro one time and one time only, and I was totally confused by it. But, it was pretty awesome.

Clearly Canadian Beverage Corporation introduces Orbitz, a non carbonated fruit flavored drink with little floating balls in it … A ‘texturally enhanced alternative beverage’, resembling a lava lamp.
I remember thinking it was pretty cool looking at the time. The novelty didn’t last long with consumers and it disappeared from shelves.
As you can imagine, the discount travel site took over the .com address to become the Orbitz we all know now.
A 90s beverage if I’ve ever seen one.

Coca-Cola knew that kids wanted cool, and they didn’t have it. Thus OK Soda was born.

Hip, bold retro-style graphics, a ‘uniquely fruity flavor’, and a clever ad campaign playing on the knowledge kids had about ad campaigns made this soda a hit among youngsters in test markets. But, the results weren’t good enough for a national rollout, and the project was scrapped.

Calling 1-800-I-FEEL-OK would lead you prerecorded anecdotes from the OK spokesman as well as messages left by consumers.
I still remember calling from the payphone outside my middle school.
OK Soda WAS cool. It was fun. It is now lost in the 90s.

Levi’s, BK Knights, Doritos Jumpin’ Jack Cheese, Pert Plus
The world was a very, very different place.

Sponge release their hit single ‘Plowed’ from their debut album ‘Rotting Piñata’, which was eventually certified Gold.
You may have forgotten the band. But, when you hear that opening riff, you’ll remember the song.
These days we have pretty great comic book movies. The Dark Knight Trilogy, Iron Man, Avengers, etc.
In the 90s, there were some comic book movies. Most of them were not good. Some of them were astoundingly awful. Did you know there was a Captain America movie made in 1990? Oh boy. It was a doozy.
I wouldn’t bother watching the movie.

A couple of 13 year old kids with their pants on backwards. It was great idea at the time!

Duncan Sheik, a handsome 26 year old crooner, arrives on the scene with his self-titled debut album on Atlantic Records.
While not originally intended as a single when it was written, the song ‘Barely Breathing’ ended up as one of the most played singles of the 90s and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
While the album (and the 6 that have followed since) have a lot more to offer musically, the song and the video remain shining examples of the greatness of 90s radio.

Snapple introduces Wendy, the Snapple lady, in nationwide commercials answering letters to the company. These commercials were fantastic and had a tremendous effect on Snapple’s presence in the beverage market.
Snapple was introduced over twenty years earlier, but had you heard of it before 1993? I hadn’t. I still think of Wendy when I see Snapple.

20 years before the Dark Knight rose, the Batman returned.
Tim Burton and Michael Keaton take another stab at the caped crusader, and it’s even darker than 1989’s Batman.
Danny DeVito is awesome and kind of frightening as The Penguin. Michelle Pfieffer is sexy but kind of annoying as Catwoman.
It is quite successful with fans and critics, and is unfortunately followed by two less enjoyable sequels : Batman Forever (1995) and the colorful piece of crap known as Batman & Robin (1997)
